| Re: Order of installation, a general question... Download, and have ready to go, Vista service pack 2 (SP2) Disconnect the computer physically from the internet. Install the operating system Install SP2 Shut down computer and reconnect the internet Now get the updates. By doing it this way you will not duplicate updates that are already included in SP2. It will go much faster this way. Don't forget to install your antivirus software before you go anywhere else on the internet. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "pauliewalnuts" <guest@unknown-email.com> wrote in message news:32606b592785d03bf7fd0c7cffe8cf10@nntp-gateway.com... > > A quick and general question... > > I'm going to reinstall Vista 64-bit Home Premium. > > Should I install both the service packs first, -and then- the security > updates and miscellaneous thingies? From http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd300591.aspx "Prerequisites .... You must have a genuine copy of Windows Server 2008 with SP1 or Windows Vista with SP1 installed on the computer prior to installing SP2 Windows Server 2008 released with the Service Pack 1 code included SP2 is the first post-release Service Pack for Windows Server 2008" |

| Re: Order of installation, a general question... Yes, you are correct. I did not consider that in my answer but I will be certain to in the future. There are still people who have the original DVD which I tend to forget. -- Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience "LVTravel" <none@nothere.com> wrote in message news:OhOgwV53JHA.5204@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > > > "Richard Urban" <richardurbanREMOVETHIS********.com> wrote in message > news:#$dKFHz3JHA.1092@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >> Download, and have ready to go, Vista service pack 2 (SP2) >> >> Disconnect the computer physically from the internet. >> >> Install the operating system >> >> Install SP2 >> >> Shut down computer and reconnect the internet >> >> Now get the updates. >> >> By doing it this way you will not duplicate updates that are already >> included in SP2.
