Vista SP2 is now available...

X86 version:

You must uninstall any beta or RC version of SP2 before installing the RTM.

People should read both the Release Notes and Deployment Guides prior to
installing this SP to avoid posting questions or issues that re already
addressed in those documents
see
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd262148.aspx
Such as not understanding that SP1 is a prerequisite for installing SP2.

Also please note that support for Windows Vista SP2 is provided via the
Microsoft forums at
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/itprovistasp/threads/
(as clearly stated on the page above)

I happened to run a Windows Update and it showed as available. A bit of
a surprise. I'll wait awhile and let others be the guinea pigs...

Installed quickly and without a hitch here.

Just like every other update I've installed.

yes SP2 sits now in automatic updates waiting to be Installed,
I hope it don't copies IE8, it caused me nothing but trouble
on both computers basic and premium
and ended up removing it,
I have nothing BETA

You can choose to install what you want to install. If you don't want
IE8 - and I do NOT, because it repeatedly crashes on my system - you
don't have to install it.

Re: Vista SP2 is now available...

SP2 has been well tested by the beta testers. You don't have to wait. Just
read the available information before you start the upgrade and do NOT shut
down the computer manually. The upgrade can take over an hour.

Don't think it took more than 20 minutes here. I never timed it.

It took 27 minutes for me but the installation was smooth and trouble-free.

Re: Vista SP2 is now available...

Seemed to download and install OK (quite quickly - say 30 minutes). After
the install finished, I was a bit worried when my bluetooth keyboard and
mouse failed to communicate: I then shut down manually (by pressing the
desktop machine's button) and then restarted.

Cheers,

Re: Vista SP2 is now available...

With regard to devices working post SP2 it may be worth noting that as
stated at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948465

"... After you install SP2 for Windows Vista and for Windows Server 2008, a
sound device or hardware device may no longer work.
If this problem occurs, install an updated driver for the device. ..."

SP2 does not guarantee 100% device driver compatibility with your pre-SP2
system.

Not all of my auto-loads loaded on the initial restart, but all was
fine after another.

Is it a good idea to install SP2 in Safe-Mode if it can be done?
