| Vista Beta to Upgrade What I'd like to know is when the new Vista OS is officially on the market will users of the Vista Beta be able to purchase the upgrade version to upgrade their beta version to a full working version of Vista? Or do we have to purchase the full-version Vista OS software of our choice after the June deadline for the beta version? Anyone who has any idea at all about this issue I'd appreciate it, because I bought a new computer at the end of August and found out 3 wks later that anyone who bought a new computer would be eligible for the Vista upgrade and we were told we'd qualify for the upgrade then when we got our email and went to apply for our upgrade we found out that any computer purchased AFTER October 2006 only would be eligible....so that really sucks...lol Anyway, thanks for any help anyone can provide. |

| Re: Vista Beta to Upgrade Mike is correct. You can purchase a full edition and select the upgrade option in Setup as long as you purchase Vista Ultimate (the beta and RC's were all Ultimate editions). Upgrade will be disabled if you purchase anything less than Ultimate. | Re: Vista Beta to Upgrade I had a similar issue. As a suscriber to the Action Pack, I was expecting a full release version of Vista Ultimate. So I picked out an affordable dual core system, upgraded it to Vista Ultimate RC1 with the thought that I would flatten it and install Ultimate when it arrived. Unfortunatly, I received notice that Action Pack suscribers are only getting 10 copies of Vista Business Upgrade. So last night, I flattened the box and put XP Pro on it again. The "legal" way to do it was a headache, though. As XP Pro was now gone, I had to reinstall the box to factory using IBM's Recovery tool. Not allowed to upgrade my MSDN copy. So I went back to factory, then uninstalled EVERYTHING but XP. Now I'll sit tight until the Action Pack comes in. It's supposed to ship today. "Colin Barnhorst" wrote: > Mike is correct. | Re: Vista Beta to Upgrade 2 things. The XP CD's I received in my maps were upgrades only. There was no way to flatten and use them for a full install. True, I have an MSDN copy of XP as well that allows full install, but legally I cannot use that version on a machine I plan to use as my regular "production" box. It's for development only and I already have it installed on a test box. Many years ago, I cut my teeth doing MS NT and Exchange 5 senior level support (for Microsoft, at Stream). Microsoft gave me all my vouchers for my MCSE (on NT) for $0, so I pretty much made a commitment to follow their rules when it comes to "rights of use".
