| left side assignment of dual screen desktop does anyone know how to retain a dual screen desktop setup IF the secondary screen is to the left of the primary one? after reboot vista forgets this setting but also when you lock the desktop and unlock it you see vista switching the secondary screen from the left to the right so doesn't vista like left side secondary screens or what <g> anyway this used to work perfectly but all of a sudden this behaviour broke (maybe some update slipped in?) so if you know something that would defenately persist my duals screen setup it would make my day tia, marc |

| Re: left side assignment of dual screen desktop You could swap the physical connections from your video card(s) and see if that will retain your settings. Try using UltraMon. www.ultramon.com If you right click the system tray ultramon icon and go to Display Settings, you can choose which monitor is to be primary, but I am not sure if this is just another interface to the same setting in the standard Windows Display Properties. ss. |

| Re: left side assignment of dual screen desktop I'm going to guess here - but is it a NVidia graphics card in the laptop? I have a Dell Preceision M60 which has an NVidia card and in Vista and XP I also see that the monitor will always end up (after reboot) as on the right, even if I set it left. I've heard others NVidia users having this problem and I just assume it's an NVidia driver thing. Could be wrong - just haven't heard an ATI user, for example, complaining about this. | Re: left side assignment of dual screen desktop SS There are still some issues using UltraMon on Vista. with the latest 2.7.1 release. The mirroring feature is not available. Aero does not display the UM buttons. Using a monitor set to the left of the primary, messes up the wallpaper. UM taskbar does not match the Vista taskbars. The new version (3.0) should be released within a week or so and this will fix all of these problems in Vista. :) -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "Synapse Syndrome" <synapse@NOSPAMgomez404.elitemail.org> wrote in message news:uEkyt4VOHHA.4244@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > "Marc Antheunis" <ask_me@ask.me> wrote in message > news:%233%23lI5UOHHA.420@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >> does anyone know how to retain a dual screen desktop setup IF the >> secondary screen is to the left of the primary one? >> >> after reboot vista forgets this setting >> but also when you lock the desktop and unlock it you see vista switching >> the secondary screen from the left to the right >> so doesn't vista like left side secondary screens or what <g> >> anyway this used to work perfectly but all of a sudden this behaviour >> broke (maybe some update slipped in?) >> >> so if you know something that would defenately persist my duals screen >> setup it would make my day > > > I'm not having any problems with my screens. How did you hear about that? The long awaited beta doesn't seem to be out yet? I've been waiting so long for v3 that I had given up on it ever coming out. ss. |

| Re: left side assignment of dual screen desktop I talked to one of their support people recently, and she said that the target date for v3 is the first quarter 07, but they are pushing hard for it being available when Vista is released on the 30th. -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "Synapse Syndrome" <synapse@NOSPAMgomez404.elitemail.org> wrote in message news:uqu6ZBgOHHA.3900@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > "Ronnie Vernon MVP" <rv@invalid.org> wrote in message > news:%23Kw$kbbOHHA.1252@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> SS >> >> There are still some issues using UltraMon on Vista. with the latest >> 2.7.1 release. >> >> The mirroring feature is not available. >> Aero does not display the UM buttons. >> Using a monitor set to the left of the primary, messes up the wallpaper. >> UM taskbar does not match the Vista taskbars. >> >> The new version (3.0) should be released within a week or so and this >> will fix all of these problems in Vista. :) > > > Oh, that's good news. | RE: left side assignment of dual screen desktop I had the same problem. Disabling the Windows Event Logging service stopped the problem. Right click the computer, select manage, open the services and applications, open the services snap in, find "Windows Event Log", right click, select properties, select disable. Restart and see if this fix helped.
