The built-in Windows one will be perfectly adequate. -- Asking a question? You will be adequately protected by the hardware while it's off and you can determine if it's the problem. FYI - there are known issues with Vista and ZA. It runs fine on some machines, not on others. |

| Re: internet connection There are widely scattered reports of ZA causing this problem on Vista. My recommendation is based on that, not a personal preference against the use of a third party firewall. | Re: internet connection Hi Rick thanks again for your advise. I have read on other forums that i need to disable the Windows Firewall not from the Security centre, but from the "Services" Property box, which i have done. Apparently when you install ZoneAlarm it only turns off the Firewall and not the service? I'm not too technical so cant really comment, but it has seemed to have worked! Lost my connection only once in the last 24 hrs instead of a dozen or more, Fingers xxd. Also i have been advised to uncheck the QoS packet sheduler, IPv6 and Link-layer Topology (both) Boxes in the Local Area Connection Properties Box. Tried with and without, not sure what they do? Seems to have little effect either way? do you or anyone know wether they should be enabled or not? would be grateful to know. | Re: internet connection I had problems with ZA holding Firefox hostage in Zista also, and uninstalled it and go with the Vista firewall only. It's greatly improved over the previous Win firewalls in the it also stops programs from going out as ZA does. I've had no problems since. Too bad ZA didn't upgrade their product far enough for Vista,as I used to think it was the best.
