My scanner works with Vista and Windows 7. It just doesn't co-operate with
Windows Fax and Scan because Canon do not produce the appropriate software.
It is a 9 year old Canon LiDE..

I threw one of those away the other day. They won't work with Ubuntu and
they are USB 1.1, not 2.0.

Yeah, I "used" to fax quite a bit when I had XP...but all that stopped with
Vista! No actually I was just trying to point out something to the poster
who thought faxes were a thing of the past. As far as I'm concerned they're
not...and I wish Vista had it.

I have Vuescan installed and the scanner works fine in Vista 64. I don't use
it enough to warrant buying a new one..

I suspect that some companies still like fax because it saves their
mailboxes filling up with large e-mails.. still an antiquated system of
sending stuff though. Not always too reliable and for home users, it ties up
the telephone line..

It's used in business all the time. In Spain we even have a BuroFax. Do

Yes, it is a certified fax service supplied by Correos.I never used it when
living in Spain, but it is a very useful service, I am sure

And you have another way to transmit documents, electronically, to an entity
that doesn't have e-mail? Fax works, it's tried and true and the simplest
way to send signed hard-copies of documents.

Only Vista Basic and Home Premium don't have the fax utility. Business and
Ultimate do. There are some pretty good 3rd party fax programs that will
run under all Vista flavors.
