Hi - I hope someone here can shed some light on this problem.
I disabled the built in microphone and speckers on my laptop when I got
a decent headset. I assumed this would just stop them functioning but it
seems ' disable' means 'disappear' as they vanished from the device
lists making re-enabling them impossible.
Where should I be looking to enable these devices again ?

You may have disabled them in the bios. Reboot the computer and go into your
bios, then enable the devices you want enabled. If you told Windows not to
tell you about new devices, then go into device manager and select "scan for
hardware changes".
