no hard disk found

Hi, new here. I have a sony vaio laptop that has been working perfectly
up until a few days ago. I got a blue screen that said unmountable boot
volume. I have a vista restore/repair disk but no sony restore disks.
I'm not really sure if mine came with any? I used the vista disk and
when i try to repair it it says no hard disk found as the error. Is
there a way to get my computer to see the hard disk? I've tried using
the command prompt but a lot of things i've tried like chkdsk aren't
working or i'm not sure what they mean. If someone knows how to help
thank you so much because I have no clue what's going on.
I can give more info i'm just not sure what you need.

Restart your laptop... look for the message about entering "setup" and
tap the F-key it calls for. Be quick. Probably F2 or F3.

Look for your hard drive in there. If it can't be found, it died.

Re: no hard disk found

Hopefully you have a backup of your data on another device? Right?

Re: no hard disk found

Hi,

Does the drive show in the system BIOS? Can you enter the recovery console
by booting the Vista disk and run a DIR?

You may very well have a problem with your hard drive. Download
SEATOOLS from the Seagate site and run it.

As for problems installing Win98... this is a VISTA group.
