Sorry if I've posted to the wrong group but the "vista.network_sharing"
didn't seem to be the right place either.....

Anyways... I've been running into a bit of trouble with Vista 64bit vs. XP
when it comes to IP reservation through my router (Netgear WGT624 v3). All
of the XP machines always get their assigned IP without any problems.
However the Vista PC will upon occaision seem to ignore the assigned
(reserved) IP either that or the router isn't undestanding the Vista PC.

Regardless of the cause, it's frustrating. I prefer to assign the IP
addresses within my network but Vista won't cooperate. Does anyone have any
experience with this or an answer ??

Are you reserving IPv4 address (i.e. 10.0.0.1) or IPv6 Address
(fe80::48d5:8fe0:88bc:6161%29)

Assuming IPv4 address

-How are you reserving this on the router? If by MAC address have you
checked you are using the correct MAC address (Physical Address in ipconfig
/all)
-Have you checked your network card is set to Automatically Configure an IP
address using DHCP?
-If that is all correct have you tried disabling IPv6 on the network card to
see if it makes a difference? In Network and Sharing Centre click Manage
Network connections, then rightclick the network card, choose Properties and
in the Networking tab untick Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)

Thanks for the reply.

The address reservation is done by MAC. The netgear router is "smart". When
creating a new reservation it will show the MAC and machine name of any PC
that is currently connected and *not* reserved.

Yes, DHCP is enabled.

I have not tried disabling IPv6. If I disable it, and that works what are
the consequences by having it disabled?

The really strange thing is that this problem does seem to be intermittant.
When I was first setting up the PC (a month or so ago) it worked fine. Then
after a reboot it stopped working. I think that subsequent reboots cleared
the problem for a while, but then recently after a power outage it quit
working again.

And this problem is only occuring on the Vista PC. All other devices (wired
& wireless) including a Wii, PS3, a universal remote, and 2 or 3 XP PCs are
OK.
