| Dual Boot of Solaris 10u7/Vista Currently running Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 w/ 2 Gb memory. I'm planning to install Sun Solaris 10 upgrade 7 with ZFS root filesystem in a dual-boot configuration. Sun Virtual Box is not an option here, due to memory constraints. Current 160 Gb system disk will soon be replaced with a 500 Gb disk from a major OEM, however. I ran a quick test install last night of 10u7 on an empty 20 Gb partition of system disk. 10u7 installation was successful but it destroyed the Vista installation. Had to restore Vista from system backup made just before this attempt. I searched Google this morning for a resolution, but got more that 10,000 hits on this. Seems everyone has their own intricate resolution. So, does a real resolution exist for this problem? |

Boot the OS of your choice. -- DeeDee, don't press that button! DeeDee! NO! Dee... [I filter all Goggle Groups posts, so any reply may be automatically by ignored] |

IIRC I installed Windows first and used it to partition the disk; half for Windows and half for Solaris X86. |

If I follow that path, it means 160 Gb disk gets relegated to an external enclosure on USB 2.0 bus. Quite the performance loss, that. |

They are in no way related to opinions held by my employer, Sun Microsystems. Statements on Sun products included here are not gospel and may be fiction rather than truth. |

I've never been able to do that without separate disks. -- DeeDee, don't press that button! DeeDee! NO! Dee... [I filter all Goggle Groups posts, so any reply may be automatically by ignored] |
