| IE not working! Just recently when using IE as a search engine, it takes ages for it to respond and when it eventually does load, I get this message: "Bad Gateway, The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server" Is there something wrong with IE or is it my end and how can I put this right? In IE do Tools-Internet Options-Connections-LAN settings and see if Proxy server is checked. If it is, uncheck it and see if that helps. -- Asking a question? I don't know if this helps but I have a Dell laptop with a 2 GB hard drive and I am running Windows Vista OS with addition of SP 1. Wendy |

| Re: IE not working! Thanks Gordon, I looked at the URL you sent and read the various explanations and possible remedies but I delved further into this and had some interesting responses from some of the gurus I know. Apparently it is all to do with the new IE 8 update that has been introduced to Windows lately and IE 7 is suffering because of this and therefore not working properly. I was advised to hang on before letting the new IE 8 update take effect as apparently there are loads of problems with it and in one of these newsgroups (not sure which one it is, must be one about IE somewhere) there are lots of complaints by users where it has slowed their computer's down or even mucked them up completely! I was advised to find the update, uncheck it and then hide it and wait until all the problems with IE are sorted out. Once they have got their act together, you can easily find it again and then install it. I have to say that on this machine (Toshiba Satellite L40 Dual core T2330 1.6 GHz processors with 2GB RAM and Vista Home Premium), there seems to be no problems either performance-wise or other, with IE8... -- Asking a question?
