Bestbuy is lying when they say they can ship one in a week? Amazon is lying when they say that if I order in the next 22 hours and 50 minutes, they will get one to me by Monday, May 4th? It changes the dynamics of the sale considerably. A Target end cap full of Linux machines is considerably more interesting than any website. This is why Apple has their own stores and why they also have their gear in many conventional retailers. Their mp3 players are everywhere and their computers are in Frys and Best Buy. This was the final deciding factor that led me to have 3 Macs. There simply weren't any PCs of that same form factor being sold anywhere "physical". This meant that I couldn't "see the product for myself" or "try it out" or see for myself if some of the FUD about the product is really true. Considering the keyboards on some of these netbooks and how "cramped" they are generally, you would have to be pretty "faithful" to buy one sight unseen. The keyboards can vary from tiny like mine, to reasonable like the Acer Aspire A110. The screen nay be too big, or too small or not to your liking. The case may be too ugly, or too pretty, or it may not have enough, or too many SD or USB ports, or their location may be unacceptable to you. If it has a hard drive and Windows, put your hand underneath and feel the *heat*, you won't get that with a SSD and Linux. I always suggest handling a netbook before buying one. <snip> -- If we wish to reduce our ignorance, there are people we will indeed listen to.
