What you are suggesting is nothing but foolhardy. This message is for the sake of others reading this thread. You will undoubtedly take it as an opportunity to start up another argument with me, but if you do, I won't respond. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

| Re: Antivirus software for Windows Vista Most people with viruses don't know they have them, you are making the grave error of assuming the virus author wants to damage your system so you will know. The smart virus authors (And Trojans are especially included in this) want the virus to continue spreading so make every effort to avoid doing damage. I agree that 90% of protecting yourself is vigilance, but if you rely only on that then you are also relying on 10% good luck, and that runs out. Clueless people will be clueless people regardless of the OS. That said, most windows users don't use CMD and probably won't use a Linux terminal as most things can be done with a GUI in each OS. Windows, OTOH, is much more prone to viruses as everything is interconnected with the registry or "root". UAC was a good idea but was implemented in such an intrusive way that people turned it off. The crap for linux is coming if it ever gets widespread desktop usage. |

| Re: Antivirus software for Windows Vista I have no intentions of starting or continuing any argument. I merely state facts. I have an external backup harddrive. I do NOT click on anything unknown. I do NOT use any virus programs or registry cleaners. I have NEVER had a virus. My system runs fast and error free. No surprises. No problems updating, no slowdowns. I use Windows firewall. Well, not unless they need to actually get something done, then it turns out to be a requirement. |
