Hi,

I have installed the Vista Enterprise RTM (from my msdn downloads area) and
have been able to set everything up.

I have full internet access and can do what I need to do, however now i want
to join a windows 2003 domain, i seem to have a problem

Firstly if I go into the system properties (from computer icon select
properties) and click change button (on the computer name tab screen) change
the PC to be a memeber of the domain. When I apply this it immediatly asks
me for a valid domain user id and password with permission to join the
domain, but then times out with the following error. This same message is
displayed at the end of selecting the network ID

'The following error occured attempting to join the domain "domain1"
The format of the specified network name is invalid"

Doing a search on this error, I have found that it seems to be related to a
dns problem, however I am able to ping the server by both its FQDN and just
the machine name from the client

I have disabled IPv6, so just running old IPv4

The other method I have tried is to use the Network ID button the system
properties screen. The wizards quickly get through asking me for the user/id
passwords, but then at the end when it tries to join the domain, i get the
following error

'Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error
occured:

The format of the specified network name is invalid"

This message appears even with the pingable FQDN

Am I missing something ?????

Other points:
Same errors even when vista firewall turned off.
The output of ipconfig is expected however the Connection-Specific DNS
suffix is equal to "config"
