Vista Ultimate Media Center Crashes on TV Setup

I have installed Vista Ultimate RTM and it worked fine for a while. After a
Windows Update pushed a change, Media Center no longer recognized that TV
Setup had been completed and every time I try to run TV Setup, Media Center
crashes. I rolled back the update - but the problem still occurs.

Help anyone? Pretty annoying that a system works then is broken by an
update, pushed by the vendor.

Some people testing Microsoft's Windows Vista got an unexpected holiday
surprise: Their TVs stopped working.

Media Center, which is included in the Home Premium and Ultimate versions of
the Vista operating system, allows remote-control access to a variety of
entertainment options, including television, for machines that have a TV
tuner.

Re: Vista Ultimate Media Center Crashes on TV Setup

Thanks for the reply: however, I am not running RC1 - I am running RTM -
obtained via MSDN subscription. This is the real deal.

Secondly, I am not sure if the TV works or not - the problem is that when I
attempt to do a "TV Setup" (e.g. set tuners, specify locality for TV guide
etc), Media Center crashes.

Re: Vista Ultimate Media Center Crashes on TV Setup

Sounds like a driver problem. TV cards are notoriously fickle when it comes
to new operating systems.

Have you located a stable Vista compatible driver for your TV? Because most
TV cards don't yet have drivers for Vista.

Re: Vista Ultimate Media Center Crashes on TV Setup

The drivers came on the Vista RTM media - so one might assume that they are
recent. As I mentioned - it worked until a Windows Update was pushed

Re: Vista Ultimate Media Center Crashes on TV Setup

I don't know of any Vista Media Center update.
