The fact that it isn't unquestionably better than XP doesn't make it a downgrade -- it just makes moving an older computer from XP to Vista unnecessary, pointless, not worth the trouble. But if it comes installed on a new computer, it'll work just fine. It's nothing to be afraid of. It's also not worth seeking out in hopes of improvement. -- Bill Anderson I am the Mighty Favog |

| RE: Question about Vista I have a related question. I'm running Vista with Service Pack. It is now frequently freezing and "running fast." That is, it sounds like fans and drives are running in hyper drive. There's nothing to do but unplug it. I hope there's a fix, because this is hyper-annoying. | Re: Question about Vista If the fans etc are really speeding up I would be more inclined to look at the power supply voltages. Software hangs won't cause the fans to go haywire. Put a voltmeter on the 12 volts to the fans and see what it is doing. | Re: Question about Vista I'd be more likely to look for lots of dust in the ventilation channels, leading to overheating, and ultimately to further problems. Especially if the computer is old or is a laptop. Old means lots of time to accumulate dust in bad places. Laptop means narrow passages for the cooling air, so it's easy to clog the passages up.
