| files that are copied to windows vista smb share default to beingunreadable I have two computers - one running Windows XP Pro and the other running Windows Vista Ultimate. I copy files from the Windows XP computer to an SMB share on the Windows Vista computer and then try to open the files only to find that I cannot. When I try, I get an "Access is denied." error. I right click on the file, select Properties, click on the Security tab, then the Advanced button and then on the Owner tab and I see that I'm the current owner. The only thing is... despite my not being the current owner, I have no Permissions assigned to me in the Permissions tab. SYSTEM and "Administrators (compaq\Administrators)" have Full control permissions, but I, personally, do not. I go to the parent directory, figuring I'll give myself the appropriate permissions for all the files contained therein, but the "Apply these permissions to objects and/or containers within this container only" is grayed out. So what I am basically forced to do is, for each file I copy over, I have to manually give myself permission to access this. Which I think is absolutely dumb. First, imho, files copied over shouldn't default to an unreadable status. Second, so long as they are going to do that, I ought to be able to add permissions en masse. Any ideas as to what I can do to remedy this behavior? |
