Not Starting Up

Hi,
Just trying to startup my laptop but all it is doing is showing the green
bar going forward and nothing else happens, I can boot into safe mode ok and
have also tried last known good config and booted from the Vista disk to do
a restore, but still doesn't work.
I have also gone into msconfig and disable all non microsoft services and
everything in startup.
Any other ideas?

Thanks

Have you tried tapping 'F8' at startup?
From there you can make the choice(s) to serve your interests.
Let us know if it worked for you.

Re: Not Starting Up

I've taken the drive out of the laptop and plugged it into a USB external
enclosure, it detects the drive but says F:\ is not accessible, The file or
directory is corrupted and unreadable

Something drastic happened, do you know what?
Usually it's caused by a bad program or download.
There is a way to invoke self help in Vista, but at the moment I'm drawing a
blank, since F8 didn't get you anywhere. Someone will probably come up with
an idea, with a little patience.
Don't forget it's a weekend.
BTW do you see the 2 things in the upper right hand corner in the opening
screen?
Forget what exactly it says, but you have to click on one of them in order
to get somewhere.
Best of luck.

Re: Not Starting Up

I plugged the drive into a vista machine and it did a chkdsk on restart fix
many problems, I can now access the drive contents but still will not boot
into windows on the laptop

Re: Not Starting Up

All sorted, ran Ultimate Boot CD to test the hard drive, came back as errors
and ask to fixed them which I said yes too and then rebooted and did a 5 of
5 chkdsk and now I can load windows, not sure if the disk is damaged

Thanks for the feedback and glad you got it worked out.
Checking your disk for damage shouldn't be a problem, unless you don't care
to know.

Harry.

Re: Not Starting Up

After the repair I think I saw something about 4 bad blocks, I guess they
have been marked as unusable, ran the WD diagonis tool and it reported back
that the drive is ok, if it happens again, I'll replace the drive.

Thanks guys for your help
