Is SuperAntispyware Legitimate Software?

Hi,

Based upon a post in a newsgroup, I downloaded SuperAntispyware. When I
tried to download its updates, my firewall (Windows Vista) seems to have
blocked the updates, per an on-screen message.

I am wondering if this is legitimate software, or if the firewall is
trying to block a rogue program that might harm my PC.

Any input will be appreciated.

SuperAntispyware is legitimate, not rogue. And I have no trouble
downloading updates for it here.

Did you download it from http://www.superantispyware.com/ ?

If not, the file may have been tampered with.

Hi,

Thanks for the helpful replies. I uninstalled my old superantispyware,
and newly installed the free edition from Richard's suggested URL.
Again, I could not get new definitions or updates, and got an on-screen
message that there was an error, and perhaps my firewall is preventing
superantispyware.exe from getting through. (I'm running Vista Home
Premium and SeaMonkey, but the same thing happened when Firefox is on.)I
have no clue as to how I can correct this situation.
Thanks again,

Morton

P.S. My newly downloaded Superantispyware will not open at all; not with
the shortcut, and not under programs. It is frustrating.

My $0.02.. It couldn't find an obvious virus when it was the ONLY file toscan
for me.
When I went to remove it, including it's folder, it would NOT remove.
And I know how to take ownership of folders. It still would NOT delete.
IOW: there's better virus software out there, sad to say 'live one care is the
best I've found.
It hasn't missed anything thrown at it. It even caught the poison Ivy Trojan on
the fly. My previous software invited poison ivy right in, and let it runfor
weeks.

It is NOT an AV programme, I would have thought that the name of SAS
was explanatory.

You can't find a worse program for spy ware than the Poison Ivy Trojan. It logs
everything you type, takes photo images of your desktop, and sends it alloff
to someone else.

That's spying full blown..

Hi,

Thanks for the further comments. S.A.S. is of course about stopping
spyware, not antivirus.

Thank you, ex-Brit for the forum link, which I will look into.

I can't wait until Windows 7 is finally ready, as Vista Home Premium is
absolutely dreadful, a step (or many steps) backwards from XP.

Thanks again.

Sorry to see you have problems with Vista Home Premium, especially in
connection with SAS. I installed and am running the program without any
trouble whatsoever.
When you first posted, it seemed as if you were having firewall rejection,
but that is now overshadowed by more serious issues, possibly 'infection'.
Most unlikely your difficulties are caused by the OS.
From my perspective WinVista H/P works just fine for the John Doe-user, if
handled properly.

I agree with KeepOut.... LiveOne Care is excellent. I have used it for 3
years. Now that it will be free under the Morro code name, this will make it
the best free antivirus software on the market!

What do you mean free ? It's telling me I have 50 days left to subscribe.
I can't believe they're selling this out to another company..
I had intended on subscribing, even with 5 months left on the Trend
subscription.
Was looking for a way to get it at Walmart.. I want a CD or program to backup
and re-install if necessary.

Hi Harry,

Ironically, the Windows XP on my little MSI Wind netbook works just fine
with its Intel Atom processor. I have read that Windows 7 does also.
Perhaps the new Windows 7 will solve my probems. However, Microsoft's
track record is not good at all.
