| apply permissions to subfolders I am trying to do a simple thing - delete a folder from c:\windows\ Now vista permissions kick in.. there are several folders inside the directory I want to delete . Now I can't change the permission of the directory itself to delete it . I have to individually take ownership and change permissions of each subfolder to delete it. which isn't possible, because there are like 300 subfolders . So how do I change the permission settings of of every folder and file inside a directory ? just delete a god**** non-empty folder. ty -- chesss ------------------------------------------------------------------------ chesss's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/chesss.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1106510.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

| Re: apply permissions to subfolders Why are you deleting folders in C:\Windows? That is where Vista puts its things. Unless you're a Windows Vista guru, you shouldn't be playing around there. You're looking for trouble. | Re: apply permissions to subfolders Vista tries to protect the OS from malware and the user by prohibiting malware or users from taking Full Control of certain OS folders and files. As other poster said, if you're messing with Windows OS files and folders- don't. And if you're saving personnal data files to Windows folder, don't do that either. -- oscar :) ....Right click is your very good friend... | Re: apply permissions to subfolders Hi, Permissions are there because anything in the C:\Windows directory would be a protected folder. You would need to alter permissions, and have it propagate to all containers and objects to remove any sub-folder. Be aware though, that if it's a system default folder, ie: part of Vista, then you will not be able to permanently remove it (if you delete it then it will just be recreated by system file protection). From a C:\Windows> command prompt, you could use: icacls <folder> /t /g <user>:f -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "chesss" <chesss.3mc4ja@DoNotSpam.com> wrote in message news:chesss.3mc4ja@DoNotSpam.com... > > I am trying to do a simple thing - delete a folder from c:\windows\ > Now vista permissions kick in.. > > there are several folders inside the directory I want to delete .
