| \boot\bcd + 0x000000f error when starting up Hello all, I have two laptops with a problem that arises every time windows update installs an update. Even uninstalling an update causes this. The Windows Boot Manager complains that it cannot read the boot configuration data. File: \boot\BCD Status: 0x000000f I can get this fixed using the vista dvd repair option whics takes care of the problem in 5 minutes, but the problem reappears when updates are installed / uninstalled. The first computer is a Fujitsu-Siemens laptop and the other computer is a Macbook with vista as the only OS. -- ken0bi ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ken0bi's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/ken0bi.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1078636.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

| Re: \boot\bcd + 0x000000f error when starting up I'm not sure how much of this applies to your MacBook. It should fix this problem on a pc. Startup Repair is also valuable in fixing significantly broken Vista as well as problems booting into Windows. 1) Try Startup Repair: How to Use Startup Repair: (Any of the links provide screen shots) http://www.windowsvista.windowsreinstall.com/vistaultimate/repairstartup/index.htm http://www.vistaclues.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/12/click-repair-your-computer.png 2) You can use the Vista DVD or F8 to the Options Menu to try the bootrec.exe tool switches: How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392 Windows Vista no longer starts, and Startup Repair does not fix problem http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934540 The commands I use are: bootrec /Rebuild BCD bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /Fixboot _________________ They can either be used from a command prompt reached from the Vista DVD or you can F8 to the options menu and select Safe Mode with Command: A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP/and Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222/ 3) You can F8 to the Options menu and try 3 Safe Modes to reach a system restore point, and you can also try Last Known Good Configuration. I recommend trying all 3 Safe Modes except with VGA because often one works when the others won't. | Re: \boot\bcd + 0x000000f error when starting up Did you ever find a solution to this recurring issue? I suspect updates are also causing this problem to recurr with a client's laptop. -- UnicornSong ------------------------------------------------------------------------ UnicornSong's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/98548.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1078636.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

| Re: \boot\bcd + 0x000000f error when starting up I installed Vista again by launching the setup from the OS, the setup initially failed but after that the problem was gone and hasn't appeared again. This worked on two computers. -- ken0bi ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ken0bi's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/63959.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1078636.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

| Re: \boot\bcd + 0x000000f error when starting up I ran the vista setup again from the OS, the setup failed but the problem was fixed. So I still don't know what the cause of this problem was. -- ken0bi ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ken0bi's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/63959.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1078636.htm http://forums.techarena.in |
