Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 upgrade nightmare?

I have been using Vista Premium for quite some time and have had very
little problems. Most of it was getting acquainted with it. As far
as updates went also no problems until the famous SP1 came out. I
tried numerous times to install it before calling MSoft. Told them I
had no problems updating until SP1 was done funny thing is even after
not being able to install it after a number of tries it was still
installing the new ones coming in. On one specific day I had 8
updates and all of them installed perfectly. But even going to the
site and doing the download I got the error 5 and when using the disks
I got 0x0.

I got error code 5 and error codes 0x0 and when they deciphered the
CBS log I sent they said they found an error 80070002. I had followed
all of their instructions from MSoft and even with their help I was
unable to get SP1 installed. They decided it could not be repaired and
are sending me their MSoft disk with SP1 on it all ready. I sure hate
to go through a clean re install but they said it was necessary. Heck
when I put in the disks my computer would not even recognize SP1.

We shall see how it works out when the disk gets here. Posted just to
let others know who may have a problem that they are not alone!

Strange, I know that there are pre-requisite updates you must install to
have a smooth installation of Vista SP1 and the installation process itself
can arduous and long sometimes looking like it has stalled. I am sure once
you get the Vista with integrated SP1 you will be able to do an upgrade from
your Vista RTM installation.

Just for information, I have my system upgrade anytime there is one to
be posted. I am sure they all have been posted and installed and if
one had not I would think the CSR Level 2 tech would have said
something. It has bewildered me but am waiting on the disk to see if
that will work prior to having to do a clean re install. Will post if
it does or not!

Hi Andre

Thanks for your reply, am still waiting on my disk from MSoft and will
post if it works and if not that I had to do a clean install. I
have saved the post from William Walsh also just in case I have to do
a clean re install with the new Vista disk. I hate doing that but if
necessary I will. Even bought a HD Caddy and a new 500 GB HD to clone
the old stuff to so I don't lose it all if I goof it up.

Just as an update I am still waiting for my disk w/SP1 from MSoft to
date no replies when I send an email asking what happened and a
supervisor sent it back unopened. Sure is a long 7 - 15 business day
as it is just about 2 months on the 18th.
