Blue screen of death after vista x64 windows updates

A number of people including myself experiece the Blue screen of death after
vista x64 windows updates. Any chance of a useful comment (that points to a
fix) from an MVP or this another too hot to touch known problem?

PS - MVPs Google (preferably prior to drinking more cool aid) "windows
update" "blue screen" vista microsoft "x64"
if you don't beleive me. This problem is real.

Also, so far vista x64 overall rates mediocre on stability. Any hope
improvement even if it means waiting for GWindows 7.0?

Re: Blue screen of death after vista x64 windows updates

Hi,

To start with, there is free support for issues with updates here:
http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527#tab0

Just go straight to the contact link at upper right. Troubleshooting usually
revolves around removing recently installed updates or rolling back driver
updates. More involved steps would include exact text of the blue screen
error, and analyzing the dump file created.

That said, I have seen some reporting similar issues, but not a huge glut of
them. I would suspect that it likely applies to a certain piece of hardware
or supporting driver. Personally, I've seen no issue with any update and my
x64 systems.

Re: Blue screen of death after vista x64 windows updates

I took your advice. Here is the response (useless in my opinion note also
that one of the options was to post in the news group):
Hello,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Customer Service.

I understand that you are experiencing issue with the blue screen after
installing Windows update.

There are several ways you may obtain support:
You may search for self-help articles to resolve your issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/ph/11732

You may also post your issue in the Microsoft newsgroups:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.mspx

If the Microsoft Windows Vista came from your computer manufacturer, they
are your primary option for support. Contact information for most major
computer manufacturers is available at the following web link:
http://www.support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=oemphone

You may also work with a Microsoft Support Professional via e-mail,
telephone, and for some products, chat to resolve your issue. Depending on
how you obtained your Windows Vista, there may be fees to use the Assisted
Support option:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=11732

On the above webpage, please select the appropriate edition of Windows Vista
that you are experiencing issue with to proceed for further assistance.

I hope the issue is resolved soon and appreciate your patience.

Thank you,

Raj
