Thanks Shawn. The PC has been rebooted upteen times but it never shows UAC
as on in the Control Panel even when it is.

That registry edit works, although I'm intrigued to find that I have
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurentVersion\Policies\System
as well as
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
(note the spelling of CurentVersion/CurrentVersion).
