Windows Mail & Usenet

Somehow when you have all messages read it still indicates 1 message unread
in the news reader in Microsoft Mail. Anyone else run into this problem?

Yep, this happens when you get a message count estimate that varies from the
actual number of messages. Delete and re-create the account (though
sometimes it takes two or three tries for everything to sync up again!) or
wait a while and the ghosts will be purged.

Re: Windows Mail & Usenet

Hi Bob,

Yes, it happens. There are two things that cause this:

a) A synch occurred with the server, but the message didn't download.
Sometimes this happens when you go offline momentarily or upload a message.
Re-synching can correct this condition.

b) The server reported an incorrect number of messages and the newsreader
didn't correct the count. This one won't go away until the server is
corrected, as Windows Mail is not capable of recognizing and correcting the
figure as are some other newsreaders.

Yes
Right click on the news group that shows the unread message then click on
Catch Up. This has worked for me.

Re: Windows Mail & Usenet

Well, I decided to not do anything about it. Then this morning the unread
message count was 5 when all messages are read. Then I exited the program &
restarted it, and the unread message count was 0 again after all messages
were read. It's these gremlins in the machine!
