Immediately after installing Vista SP1 the media center and media player no
longer work. The player recognizes the disk and all tracks but displays a red
circle with a white X beside each song. The media center and the player
refuse to play DVDs as well. Can get the "Warning" about copying, but will
not play the DVD.

open the Registry Editor to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Audio
In the right-pane, double click on the text, DisableProtectedAudioDG, and
change the value from 1 to 0.
Restart your computer.
