| Windows Search 4.0 - no Search toolbar visible on Taskbar? OS: Dell OEM Vista Home Premium (updated to SP1) I installed Windows Search 4.0 through Windows Update yesterday and after reboot I don't see any visible difference. I read from many reviews that there is a Search toolbar in the Taskbar after installing (and there is one on my Windows XP machines), so has my Windows Search installation failed? I tried using the offline installer and it said I didn't need to update. Thanks |

| Re: Windows Search 4.0 - no Search toolbar visible on Taskbar? Feel lucky, my daughters machine won't even boot after that update. Not to safe mode, not with last known good config. I haven't had time to mess with it yet, but that really aggravates me. If I wanted that, I would have asked for it. For MS to throw it in and put it as a prioroty update sucks. If people were even semi-organized, they wouldn't need that crap built into the OS to mess things up! | Re: Windows Search 4.0 - no Search toolbar visible on Taskbar? Fellows I gave my mom a brand new desktop with Vista Home Premium with SP1 and recently downloaded Desktop Search 4.0. Great? no so much... She is a 65 yo lady and she is missing the search toolbar in taskbar and she simply won't "upgrade" herself for the new "start" menu and I had to bring it back to the "classic" style. I found here and in many other forums that a similar functionality is found on the new Start Menu and nowhere else. Now she is complaining about "how can I look for my recipes...". It may sound funny for you, but it is not. I simply cannot believe that microsoft could not put a single option button for abling or not a search toolbar in task bar just like the old XP. They spent millions for something completelly useless like the new flying 3D on AERO interface just because "it's cool" and can't put a single desktop search in task bar that would help for something that I call "backward compatibility" of the users... It may sound nonsense, but unless I get this solved, it will be more easy to me to completely format the machine and install the old XP here instead of teaching her how to use the new VISTA. (Windows 2003) After having used the START/SEARCH it works again. But i think that'might be just the old one (The screens have different layouts) I can't seem to find ant indication of version numbers for it in the interface. |
