I am using the AVG-AS 7.5 on my Vista HPsp1 and all of the time it comes up
with no exceptions. However, today I noticed that it came up with one
(medium) exception:
c:\user\bob\app data\roaming\microsoft\windows\cookies\bob@revsci( 2).txt"
(I don't know how that file would have gotten onto this new Toshiba
notebook. I didn't vist that many websites.)
I didn't delete it as I forgot to do a CCleaner scan previously. I did the
CCleaner scan and then ran the AVG-AS scan again and this time when it
finished there was no exception.
#1- Does anyone know if the exception that first came up in the AVG-AS scan
should show after this 2nd scan? (Or wouldn't the exception show on any
additional scans?)
#2- Or did the CCleaner scan remove it?
I looked in the '"c:\users\bob\app date\roaming\microsoft\windows\cookies\"
and did not see any mention of "REVSCI."
Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can find out if this exception
(cookie) is still on the Vista or should I just assume it was erased by
running the CCleaner?
I also ran SpyBot S&D; AVG-AV 7.5; and Defender, and nothing found.
SpywareBlaster is also installed.
Is there any other place I should check on vista to make sure this REVSCI is
gone, once and for all?
Hope to hear some reassuring response, that my new computer is not infected.

Apparently CCleaner is set to delete cookies, so it's gone.

You are making too much of this. Don't worry about any cookie showing
up on the scan. You apparently have CCleaner set to delete cookies,
so run it regularly if you are really worried.

Hi Alice,

revsci is a tracking cookie according to various AV sites; that MAY phone
home with your browsing habits.

Several sites will not work properly if ALL cookies are blocked. A
reasonable setting is to accept 1st party cookies and block 3rd party
cookies. IE/Tools/Internet Options/Privacy/Advanced/First Party
Cookies-Accept and Third Party Cookies-Block Uncheck always allow session
cookies.

This should reduce the AVC warnings. BTW AVG 8 is the latest issue.

The original Delboy was a character in a rather good UK comedy TV series of a few years ago!

There is apparently a lot of content in these "text" files. It is not
inconceivable to me that "code" may be embedded and run; since AVG8 pops up
"detected on opening ..."

But then you are so much more knowledgeable than I .....
