Yet somehow Oracle manages to make enough money to bring in
Elton John and Lenny Kravitz for Open World despite the fact
that they don't BOTHER THE END USER with such nonsense.

It's like gangsters and gun laws...

"somehow"? Are you mad? its because HONEST people pay for the SW. And if
they dont then, well, their stuff stops working.

Who on earth told you that? Are you insane or merely living in wonder
land? You can be as sure as hell that Oracle lawyers would be pumping
you from behind the second they are aware of your fraudulent use of
their SW.

It's nothing like it.

Bwahahahahahahahah - Anyone else think that this announcement from the MS
marketing machine was anything other than a last ditch attempt to try and
foster *some* interest in XP ?

But their CEO flies a fighter plane in reality. You're just a down at
heel hobo with a defecation fixation.

I really think XP is going to be a flop. Between the glut of hardware out
there (and slowing down of purchasing), and the fact that W2K is
sufficient for so many casual users.... I just don't see it taking off.

Yup.

They do this DESPITE the fact that there is no mandatory licence
manager in the product. There are probably plenty of shops that
haven't rightfully paid up all of the money they should have to
Oracle.

I could name names if you like.

However, the big picture is what matters and in the end the
occasional minor violations don't harm Oracle.

Personal firsthand experience on both counts.

Lenny's jam session at the Cow Palace was something to behold.

Well, they have to find out first don't they?

Sure it is.

"The LAW" only affects the "law abiding". The barriers put in
place only inconvenience those that didn't need the law or the
barriers to begin with. They behave in a civilized fashion
regardless.

That "threat" of litigation that you referred to is sufficient
in cases where the individuals or companies aren just "boy scouts"
by nature.

Oracle benefits greatly from the fact that it's products are easily
accessable and anyone that cares to try them out or use them for
personal professional development.

The occasional mugging and murder down town doesn't hurt me either.

It doesn't mean I condone it.

Keep on telling yourself that.

People can pay good money to have their 60K per CPU software looked after.

While Oracle certainly has it's weaknesses, it's real competitors are
not anything that the fanboys and lemmings in this group fixate on.

You've probably never even heard of the really interesting ones...
