I really think XP is going to be a flop. Between the glut of hardware out
there (and slowing down of purchasing), and the fact that W2K is
sufficient for so many casual users.... I just don't see it taking off.

Yup.

They do this DESPITE the fact that there is no mandatory licence
manager in the product. There are probably plenty of shops that
haven't rightfully paid up all of the money they should have to
Oracle.

I could name names if you like.

However, the big picture is what matters and in the end the
occasional minor violations don't harm Oracle.

Sure it is.

"The LAW" only affects the "law abiding". The barriers put in
place only inconvenience those that didn't need the law or the
barriers to begin with. They behave in a civilized fashion
regardless.

That "threat" of litigation that you referred to is sufficient
in cases where the individuals or companies aren just "boy scouts"
by nature.

Oracle benefits greatly from the fact that it's products are easily
accessable and anyone that cares to try them out or use them for
personal professional development.

People can pay good money to have their 60K per CPU software looked after.

While Oracle certainly has it's weaknesses, it's real competitors are
not anything that the fanboys and lemmings in this group fixate on.
