Losing Restore Points

I run Vista 64bit SP1 with all the latest updates and I am losing
restore points. If I check for restore points it tells me there are
none and even if I manually create a restore point it is gone if I
want to restore. I do have plenty of space on the hard drives and I
have searched to see if there is an option somewhere that I need to
set.

It is a nice feature when testing new programs or drivers and I would
like to get it back. Ahyone know what is going on here?

Thanks,
Al

Maybe the following article would be worth a look:

(945681) System restore points and shadow

If you dual-boot, you will lose your Vista restore points. I used to lose
my WinXP restore points as well, but SP-3 seemed to fix that for XP.

Thanks but that concerns users that are short on hard drive space - my
drive c: has 76 free GB.

Microsoft recommends this resolution to the problem when dual booting XP and
Vista. It is straitforward and quite safe:

No. Vendors will let you pick one preinstalled Windows but not two. Many
also will not support their products if you add a second OS.

Re: Losing Restore Points

No, there's no built-in dual boot on any computer (that I've heard of).
If you want to do this, you'll have to install the second operating system.
And you'll have to have a license for both. It's easiest to do this if you
have XP installed first, then install Vista.

"Everybody"? Not even close. The number of those who dual boot, or who
talk about dual-booting is insignificantly small. The great majority
of people who run Vista don't dual boot or even know that there's such
a thing as dual booting.

No.

But that's because only a tiny percentage of the user base ever visits a
newsgroup and the technology enthusiasts are way over-represented here
compared to the general user base. I read someplace that the number of
users who dual boot is only a tiny fraction of one percent of the base. And
that number is dropping as more and more users are using virtualization
programs like Virtual PC and VMWare instead.
