| Vista Won't Boot Up I have a M-Series Gateway Laptop that came with Vista installed on it. When I try to turn it on, an error screen comes up right after the screen with the green bars going across the bottom. The error window is titled "LogonUI.exe - Bad Image". The information in the window is "C:\Windows\system32\MSIMG32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system adminstrator or the software vendor for support." When I hit the "OK" button it just goes to a black screen and does nothing. This error comes up in all cases "Boot Normal", "Boot Safe Mode", and "Boot Safe Mode with Command Prompt". I can't get into safe mode or anything else for that matter. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks. |

From your description, I do not think you will have to resort to a reinstall. | Re: Vista Won't Boot Up Hate to say it but it sounds like a reinstall will be necessary. Any ideas as to when it started doing this, what you might have installed immediately before etc etc? It's unusual for a protected system file to become corrupted (at least, it was on XP) which indicates to me that you've either: 1) Got a problem with your hardware (bad sector on disc?) 2) Contracted a virus which has tried to inject itself into a system DLL and just succeeded in corrupting it 3) Installed a new driver, system patch, or something else that corrupted the file. You might be able to recover using the original installation discs and hopefully not lose all your data. | Re: Vista Won't Boot Up Hi Guys Please Macro, Do as Charlie42 says. A repair on Vista with the disc will recover the operating system from almost anything 100%. Corrupt Partition on HD, Bad .inf Files, Corrupt boot sectors ect.... Try it! A lot less to lose than a reinstall. | Re: Vista Won't Boot Up I recently had the same problem with my daughters Dell Laptop. I tried to restore and also repair Windows with no luck. What you have to do is boot up using the Vista install disk, then select the DOS command line and go to c:\windows\system32 directory and rename msimg32.dll to msimg32.bak. After doing this you will find on the Windows install DVD a system32 directory. Go to that directory and copy msimg32.dll to c:\windows\system32. Once you have done this reboot the PC as normal. After the pc starts you can delete the msimg32.bak if you want. |
