Lost Start menu functions

After one of the automatic updates for Windows I noticed that now all I can
access from my start menu are Open Explore and Scan with AVG. All other
functions like search and log off turn off ect.. are no longer there. If I
try to access it thru control panel the dialogue box flashes and disapears.
Also if I left click the start button it indents then comes back with no
affect. Any suggestions?
Karl

Re: Lost Start menu functions

Mark,
Thanks for the reply.
The only issue is the first line is left click start menu for all programs.
I do not have that option. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Karl

Re: Lost Start menu functions

The Task Manager, available when you right click the taskbar, will offer a
"New task" button on the "Applications" tab, which will let you run the
command:
SFC /SCANNOW

Re: Lost Start menu functions

Try typing

cmd /ksfc /scannow

This will leave the window open so you can read what it says.

You are not entering the command properly.
Copy and paste

SFC /SCANNOW

into the box and do it again.

Re: Lost Start menu functions

Run SFC from an elevated Command Prompt. To open an elevated Command Prompt,
click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command
Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
