| Screen Saver Tab Gone ???? Hello, got a weird problem. I noticed today that my screen saver tab in "Display" is gone. I knew it was there last week, and I get this advertisement on my screen for Win2008 Virus Protector, that goes away when I hit any key (Like a screensaver). I assumed it was a virus, and my virus protector did quarantine a virus yesterday. Is there anyway I can get my Screen Saver Tab back??? I did run a full virus scan and it says there is no virus in my system, but I still get that pop up advertisement and still no scren saver tab. Thanks for any help. |

You need to run a couple of malware scanners too: Download and run AT LEAST TWO of the following: Spybot Search and Destroy: http://www.safer- networking.org/index2.html Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/ Ad-ware: http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php |

| Re: Screen Saver Tab Gone ???? Thanks Nonny I did find that screen saver that the virus left in my system and I got rid of it (.svr extension in system32 folder), so one problem is solved. Spybot caught the virus program, but didn't get rid of screensaver it left But still got problem of no screen saver tab in display. I don't really know how to fix that one. Thanks. If there is no tab on the Screen Saver page then run the system file checker from an elevated command prompt. Type CMD in Start/Search (do not hit Enter). Right click on the cmd icon in the top of the menu. Select Run As Administrator. Type SFC /SCANNOW at the prompt and hit Enter. There is a space after SFC. |

| Re: Screen Saver Tab Gone ???? Joel; reboot and tap F8 right at Startup to go into Safe Mode. When a list is presented, use the UP Arrow to get to SM, then hit ENTER. Rescan in SM with your Anti-virus and anti-spyware programs to remove anything left. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "JOEL" wrote: > Thanks Nonny > > I did find that screen saver that the virus left in my system and I got rid > of it (.svr extension in system32 folder), so one problem is solved. | Re: Screen Saver Tab Gone ???? I had the same virus, to get your screensaver tab back download this: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs...tabmissing.reg run it and click yes when it asks if you want to "add this information to the registry". |

| Re: Screen Saver Tab Gone ???? That was most helpful! Thank you!!! I didn't ask the question first, but I came to find the question when I inadvertanly installed Antivirus XP 2008 and it hijacked my system and I was searching for help to get it back to normal. AVG seems to have removed the malware, but it did not restore the screen saver tab. Your little link did the trick! Thank you!!! |

Post to the correct groups, please. I advise you to reinstall your OS after deleting the partition, recreating it, then formatting it. -- Donald L McDaniel Please reply to the original thread and Newsgroup ===================================== |
