How do I edit the classic theme in Vista?

I switched to the classic theme as rumors are it helps performance (ONLY HAVE
1g RAM). But I like a variation on the colors that come as a the classic
default but don't see a way how.

Someone can also comment if you think the theme has nothing to do with
performance.

Thanks in advance!

Re: How do I edit the classic theme in Vista?

the classic theme turns off windows drawing acceleration of all kind, this
it is actually SLOWER if your card is aero glass capable

People are mistaken when they advise people with aero glass capable cards to
switch to classic.

Unlike XP that had acceleration when drawing windows in all themes, vista
can accelerate the drawing of windows ONLY when in aero glass mode.

When in classic or with GLASS 3d turned off, then ALL acceleration is
disabled, resulting in a far worse performance than any version of windows
since windows 95.

this is stupid design made by Microsoft for a stupid OS called Vista.

Unlike XP that had acceleration when drawing windows in all themes (called
GDI acceleration), vista
can accelerate the drawing of windows ONLY when in aero glass mode and lacks
the GDI acceleration in classic mode,
and acclerates the drawing if windows and other elements in a different way
when aero glass 3d is turned on.

When in classic or with GLASS 3d turned off, then ALL acceleration is
disabled, resulting in a far worse performance than any version of windows
since windows 311. (Yes even windows95 had GDI acceleration and could draw
windows faster than Vista could when Classic theme is enabled)

this is stupid design made by Microsoft for a stupid OS called Vista.

You can edit Vista's Classic Theme using this procedure:

Right-click on your Desktop and select:
Personalize > Window Color and Appearance >
"Open classic appearance properties for more color options"

Re: How do I edit the classic theme in Vista?

Thanks for the information. I switched it back. Vista still totally suks
though. I'm waiting until my warranty expires and then am going to wipe it
and install XP. I already have all the drivers but don't want to mess with
the lousy warranty.

You can download Windows Search 4.0 update to improve the performance,
you'll be amazed with the result.

Are you able to run Aero with the video card you have?
Also if you have only 1 gig then either add more ram (it's never been
cheaper!), or try using a 2-4 gig flash drive and enabling ReadyBoost.
Also use Vista Basic instead of Standard or Classic.

Re: How do I edit the classic theme in Vista?

the only way to make the stupid search of vista better is to turn the
service off...

what a complete piece of CRAP the search indexing is!

There's no real software solution to the performance problem caused by
your having only 1GB. If you want decent performance, you need to
spend the money and get 2GB.

Make an image of your system. Then you can remount it when/if warranty
becomes an issue.

If the machine is a laptop or a desktop where the video is integrated, you
are sharing the 1gb with the video element, maybe as much as 500mb.. get
more memory and performance will increase..

No, that's not true. Refine and define the way and what of search and
it's instant![color=blue]

Best search I've ever seen or used. You don't know how to properly
configure anything do you?

Too bad you don't know how to use a spelling checker. Mr. Macho uses
"then you very much" as opposed to "thank you very much".

The only way to ignore the "better version" is not to respond to the idiot.
