Searching for files

In older versions of Windows there was a clear 'Search' function to look for
specific files (in specific drives). In Vista (Home Premium) what is the
equivalent tool for searching specific files? Can one use wildcards such as
*partofname*.filetype in these searches?

Shortcut:

Windows Logo + F gets you to the Search box including Advance Search.
