| Windows Update KB936330 Windows Vista SP1 fails error code 8004131 Windows update has attempted to install update KB936330 for Windows Vista SP1 eight (8) times on my computer since June 6! Each and every time my system reboots after the 3rd stage of the install and an error message appears stating the the update DID NOT install and changes are being reverted. The update takes about and hour to download and install on my satellite internet connection, but takes about an hour and a half to revert back after the installation fails. According to my update history, the error code for the failed download is 80041315. I have searched support (as suggested) for this error code and no such code can be found. Also, all of the suggestions by "support" are vague to say the least! I have gone to the support sites that suggest I manually download the update...but I am confused about the language part. I know that I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit on my computer. After reading some of these posts of folks who have attempted to manually download...I think I will not go that route just yet! At this point I am only being nagged and inconvienced by Windows Update trying to unsuccessfully install an update. I do not want to jeopardize damaging my computer as well! I have also gone the email route to support about this issue and have not gotten a reply! What I do not understand is: after a full month of this update failing to install why does Windows Update continue to attempt the installation? After seeing all of the problems it seems that everyone is having with this update (and so many different error codes) I can only assume that this is a problem on Microsoft and/or Windows Update's end. Why can't this issue be resolved? -- Necy Bennett |

You might want to take the manual route and shutdown everything during this update, like AV(s) anti-spyware(s), etc etc everything that could interfere with the update. I have had no problems with the updates on Windows Vista. Maybe, one or two I took over manually and was successful in the installation of the update. |

First, though, I made sure all of the steps recommended by the 'before you download' page at MS were done (all drivers updated, etc.). I also completely turned off my Norton Internet Security 2008. The download didn't take as long as I thought it would, and everything's been fine, since. (HP Pavilion Dual Core, Vista Home Premium.) Lesley |

| Re: Windows Update KB936330 Windows Vista SP1 fails error code 800 Thanks to everyone who responded. It was indeed my McAfee Firewall that was hindering the install. After disabling the firewall the update went through without a hitch! But, ....It would have been very helpful if the error code search had this information available instead of returning "no results found". Also, a lot of undue stress could have been avoided if there was something in the update alert stating to temporarily disable the firewall before attempting to install in the first place! Then if there were actually some helpful information found in the "get help" link next to the error code, I might not have had to present my query here either. Because all other updates previously executed on my computer through Windows Update have not been affected by my firewall, I did not immediately think of this. Because Windows Update said that the Update installed successfully before my computer rebooted and then said the error failed after the very last stage that occurs after reboot, I assumed that there was nothing hindering the download or install on my end. I just find the entire process of the update and the attempt to obtain support very frustrating and confusing. Although I am very grateful to have found a solution to my problem here, I feel that consumers should not have to go to these lengths to find solutions when problems occur! Thanks again to everyone for your suggestions! Whew! Glad that's over! :o) -- Necy Bennett "LesleyO" wrote: [color=blue] > > "NecyB" <NecyB@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:4C21F145-2DFE-49B8-B67A-247B84C33B95@microsoft.com...[color=green] > > Windows update has attempted to install update KB936330 for Windows Vista > > SP1 > > eight (8) times on my computer since June 6! | Re: Windows Update KB936330 Windows Vista SP1 fails error code 8004131 Error Code 0x8024200D is: SUS_E_UH_NEEDANOTHERDOWNLOAD The installer requires more data to be downloaded As you've been offered the SP1 package from WU then try a manual download and installation. At least the advantage of the full file is that you can burn a copy of the same and have it if ever you need it later without having to redownload the same.
