| In Vista programs fail to connect to network but IE7 works every t When launching various different programs, Windows Live Mail, Quicken, Some MS installs etc fail to connect to network stating some wording similar to "you must connect to the Internet first or an Internet connection does not exist." If I click retry three or four times the program will usually connect. If IE7 is opened IE7 will work each time without error, and browsing is normal. Opening IE7 then trying to connect on one of these programs doesn't help. The computer also has XP on it and if I am in XP, these same programs work flawlessly. Quicken for example is the 2008 version. I installed Windows Live Mail last night and it is doing the same failure to connect two or three times then it connects. I have reset IE7 as the default browser, the firewall is turned off, I have turned off AVG, TCP V6 has been disabled, I've hard coded the IP and DNS etc, run as admin, made my self admin, turned off the user account control, nothing has solved this problem. Has anyone seen this and come up with a solution. FYI - I work as a network admin for about 1500 computers and this one has me stumped. Especially as it is my own computer running Vista Ultimate. |

| RE: In Vista programs fail to connect to network but IE7 works eve Thanks Nick - good suggestion. Unfortunately the only drivers available are the Vista ones due to it being a Nvidia set that the only drivers available are Microsoft. I've seen this issue on many posts with other NICS. Something is sometimes blocking the applications like Windows Live Mail, Windows Updater, Quicken etc from seeing the Internet yet IE7 connects everytime as does Ping etc. The issue can occur right after boot or one time it will work fine and 30 seconds later it will fail and say no network is available. It can work 10 times in a row or fail ten times in a row, or work every other time. | RE: In Vista programs fail to connect to network but IE7 works eve I might add, other computers on the Server 2003 domain / wired network / DSL have no errors, and this same computer works 100% fine rock solid in XP. It has something to do with how Vista works. "Steve" wrote: > Thanks Nick - good suggestion. | Re: In Vista programs fail to connect to network but IE7 works eve Hi Joel - I will check to see if JAVA is installed. However it does work 25% of the time and fails 75% of the time. The firewall is turned off, security features are turned off. Even when it is staying the there is no internet, I can be on the Internet browsing. I tried to install MS Live Mail the other night. It downloaded fine and then when launched said it couldn't install because there was no Internet connection. The weird things is that I can be running a Ping -t which is connecting the whole time an application is saying there is no connection. | Re: In Vista programs fail to connect to network but IE7 works eve Apparently this is not resolveable as MS has been working on the issue since 2006. There are hundreds of posts that I found in 5 minutes with the same type issues. They can ping, dns, work from the Internet Browser but applications fail to connect in Vista. Every post involving MS deadended with no solution. The answer is clear to me. Give up on Microsoft and recomend to my clients to prepare to migrate when they can. Just google "vista applications internet connection problems" "Steve" wrote: > Hi Joel - I will check to see if JAVA is installed. However it does work 25% > of the time and fails 75% of the time.
