Vista ok - at the moment

Have had this Packard Bell kit since 20/04/07. 2.4 Gig Athlon processor, 3
Gig memory, Vista home Prem SP1; fully updated.

This kit has been getting slower & s l o w e r & s l o ....
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I finally got round to re loading the machine from the
backup partition. It now seems to operate quicker than new and is almost a
pleasure to use (apart from the much maligned UAC).

Internet is much more responsive (in spite of a best speed of 1.5mbps, file
copy is pretty fair, all in all, now a satisfactory box.

How long for is another matter.

I have run an OS for as long as six years without having a slowdown
problem or finding the need to reinstall and start over.

I think it's all in how you maintain your computer and how much crap
you download and install.

Right up until you....

- allow malware to install itself
- let programs add themselves to the startup axis
- install non-compatible software
- force unsigned drivers to be used
- install crappy bloated security programs like Symantec

Re: Vista ok - at the moment

Stay away from all those neat little free programs on CNet downloads. It is
amazing how soon you can gum up the works with those. That was just as true
with XP too.
