"Appearance Settings" and clicking on "Advanced" looks promising. However,
for Windows Vista Basic, Standard, & Classic clicking on the Active Text
within the Active Windows only get item Windows which does not allow me to
set a font. Only a general color and a font color. I can't figure out how
to reset the font. The font drop down list is empty and inactive.

What new software did you install?Try reverting the changes made using that
software.

It did not inform me of changing anything. I could try to uninstall the
program, but the point is that I SHOULD be able to set the default active
window text font to whatever I want. When I follow Dell/MS's suggestion
which seems logical of going to Appearance Settings, etc. it has a font
choice drop list, but the list is inactive! If it is not there that one can
set the default font, then where? Or is this just another "feature" of the
Vista?

No, this is a "feature" of whatever the software was that you installed
which somehow broke your operating system. Contact the tech support people
for the mysterious unnamed software and see what they say. This might be a
known issue with their program and they might have a workaround.

If that doesn't work, uninstall the Mystery Program and do a System Restore
to a date before you installed it.

No, this is a "feature" of whatever the software was that you installed
which somehow broke your operating system. Contact the tech support people
for the mysterious unnamed software and see what they say. This might be a
known issue with their program and they might have a workaround.

If that doesn't work, uninstall the Mystery Program and do a System Restore
to a date before you installed it.

OK, but if the problem for the OP didn't occur until he installed the
Mystery Program, I'd be looking at that avenue first. As you actually

Yes,I suggested him to undo the changes made using the `Mystery Program`
BECAUSE I had checked to see whether the change is possible using the
in-built personalisation options of Vista.Since changing the font is not
possible as mentioned by Dave,I made the post to which you replied,only to
insist that this limitation of customisation does exist in Vista itself and
is not due to the presence of any application software.

once you get the APPEARANCE window you click on the ADVANCED tab and the font is changeable from there.

Yes,but the poster has clearly specified that he wants to change the `Window Text` font.When you click on the `Window Text` in the preview image shown in that window,you get no option to change the font.
