Upgrade hard drive

I have full version of windows Vista Ultimate installed on a 250gig Western
digital hard drive and I want to upgrade to a 500gig Seagate, reformat the
250gig and move it to another older xp machine and am not able to find any
info on how-to-do this procedure of moving all the contents from the 250 to
500.

Use a program like Acronis True Image to make an image of the 250, swap the
drives and load the image back onto the 500.

Re: Upgrade hard drive

Hi there.

There's a utility called BootIt NG from Terabyte Unlimited which is pretty
good for this kind of task. Basically you would install both HDD's on your
desktop and command the utility to perform a partition copy. It's farly
simple and the support is very good. More info at
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com.

Re: Upgrade hard drive

some new HDDs come with software that will allow you to transfer the data.
but other programs seem to do a better job.
some like Acronis, some Ghost
there are a lot of choices, have fun! LOL

Re: Upgrade hard drive

Seagate has a program called Disc wizard that will clone your 250 gig drive
to the 500 gig drive. Each partition on the new drive will automatically be
double in size. The software is similar if not identical to the Acronis
software. You will see the Acronis name when you run the software. You can
download the Disc Wizard software from the Seagate web site for free. It
will only run when one of the discs being used is by Seagate, which you said
it is.
