| Re: Latest Internet Explorer 7 Versions for XP SP3 and Vista? Hi---repeat of a message I just wrote, but do not see posted. MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE! I have joined this forum but cannot post a new thread. Only seem to be able to post a reply. The management is friendly and "helpful," but keeps referring me to higher levels of help. All that is going on is when I try to post a new question, the page reloads but the window for posting does not appear. Got a clue? |

| Re: Latest Internet Explorer 7 Versions for XP SP3 and Vista? I can't take it anymore! You're peddling nothing but FUD in these posts, Tom. Older versions of Google Toolbar or Google Earth (both of which include Google Updater by default) is/was the most likely cause of your problems (whatever they were), not IE v7.0.5730.11. Others experienced similar issues...but only AFTER installing KB947864. All you really had to do was uninstall the older Google add-on and then reinstall using a fresh download. There was NO need to remove v7.0.5730.11 and then install v7.0.5730.13 (or overinstall v7.0.5730.13)! -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ ColTom2 wrote: > Glad that you now understand the discussion about file version versus > program version. > > However, if you go to Help>About and it indicates you have version > 7.0.5730.11 you still need to do as I outlined in my previous posting > Subj: > Latest Version Build IE7 dated 8 Jun 08 8:07PM. > > Basically you need to uninstall Google Updater through Add/Remove > Programs > and download and install Build 13 from > http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...n#RelatedLinks. > Be sure and close out all open programs and disable your Anti-Virus and > Spyware programs before install. > > Unless you do the above it will not show any IE7 updates through Windows > Update. | Re: Latest Internet Explorer 7 Versions for XP SP3 and Vista? Hi, Donald. IEXPLORE.EXE v7.0.6000.20772 is the SP2QFE (Quick Fix Engineering) branch version in 32-bit WinXP SP2 and WinXP SP3 with KB947864 installed. IEXPLORE.EXE v7.0.6000.16640 is the SP2GDR (General Distribution Releases) branch version. [Source: File Information tables of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947864] Very generally speaking, Windows Update will offer you the QFE branch version if an earlier hotfix (not a true update) had been installed. What's a hotfix? See the description here: https://support.microsoft.com/contac...1414&WS=hotfix > Did you mean to say if it's not v7.0.6000.16640(Or Higher)? Well, yes! And chances are it *will* be higher after installing the IE update that MS is planning to release later today (cf. http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=33721). -- ~Robear Donald Anadell wrote: > "PA Bear [MS MVP]" <PABearMVP******.com> wrote in message > news:urv7qBpyIHA.4492@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> I did not say that, and you didn't upgrade from v7.0.5730.11 IIRC, you >> uninstalled v7.0.5730.11 and then installed v7.0.5730.13. >> >> As of this post: If the most recent IE update (i.e., KB947864, released >> 08 >> Apr-08) is installed, %system%\ProgramFiles\Internet >> Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE >> <=this file will be v7.0.6000.16640. > > Except on the two machines I maintain here with Windows XP SP3 and > KB947864 > installed on both, the version of IEXPLORE.EXE is v7.0.6000.20772 > >> If it's not, the machine is not fully patched and you're not running a >> fully patched version of IE7. > > Did you mean to say if it's not v7.0.6000.16640(Or Higher)? > > Donald Anadell > > >> >> Do NOT confuse %system%\ProgramFiles\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE >> <=this >> file version and the version displayed in IE7 Help | About! >> -- >> ~PA Bear >> >> >> ColTom2 wrote: >>> Hi PaBear: >>> >>> Are you saying because I manually ran the IE7 version 7.0.5730.13 to >>> upgrade from Build 11 and it did not require validation then it is >>> considered not fully patched. Thanks Bear, Yes I understand that, just thought it would help to clear up why one fully patched Windows XP SP3 would have a different version number for iexplorer.exe than another fully Patched version of Windows XP SP3. And of course that depends on whether the Package Installer chooses the QFE or GDR branch of KB947864 to install. > > What's a hotfix? Agreed, Updates haven't hit the servers here yet(usually around 3:00 PM DST on Patch Tuesday) so can't say for sure:) Donald Anadell > -- > ~Robear > > > Donald Anadell wrote: >> "PA Bear [MS MVP]" <PABearMVP******.com> wrote in message >> news:urv7qBpyIHA.4492@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >>> I did not say that, and you didn't upgrade from v7.0.5730.11 IIRC, you >>> uninstalled v7.0.5730.11 and then installed v7.0.5730.13. >>> >>> As of this post: If the most recent IE update (i.e., KB947864, released >>> 08 >>> Apr-08) is installed, %system%\ProgramFiles\Internet >>> Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE >>> <=this file will be v7.0.6000.16640. >> >> Except on the two machines I maintain here with Windows XP SP3 and >> KB947864 >> installed on both, the version of IEXPLORE.EXE is v7.0.6000.20772 >> >>> If it's not, the machine is not fully patched and you're not running a >>> fully patched version of IE7. >> >> Did you mean to say if it's not v7.0.6000.16640(Or Higher)? >> >> Donald Anadell >> >> >>> >>> Do NOT confuse %system%\ProgramFiles\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE >>> <=this >>> file version and the version displayed in IE7 Help | About! >>> -- >>> ~PA Bear >>> >>> >>> ColTom2 wrote: >>>> Hi PaBear: >>>> >>>> Are you saying because I manually ran the IE7 version 7.0.5730.13 to >>>> upgrade from Build 11 and it did not require validation then it is >>>> considered not fully patched. Stop using the webmail-for-dummies interface to Usenet that Microsoft attempts to usurp in pretending they have forums. Use a real NNTP (network news transfer protocol) client, like Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Xnews, XanaNews, 40tude Dialog, Forte Agent (but not their free version), etc. Then configure a news account within it to get to newsgroups. Microsoft's NNTP server (msnews.microsoft.com) is free. Your ISP may also provide NNTP (newsgroups) service. |
