Installing MS Project error

I have a HP laptop with 2GB of RAM and Vista Home premium SP1. I have tried
installing MS Project 2003, but failed after many hours of work including
postings on the Project Discussion Group (they sent me here). After I have
now installed SP1 and downloading MS Project professional 2007, I tried to
install it. EXACTLY the same failure as with MS project 2003. Specifically, I
go through the following:
1. Configuration process
2. Preparing to install
3. The MS Project 2007 flash screen flashes momentarily
4. Preparing to set up
5. and then steps 1 thru 4 repeat themselves.

Finally, I get the error 'There is not enough memory to complete the
operation. To free up available memory, close programs, projects or windows
you aren't using, then try again'.

Believe me, I have 'tried again' and now have at least 20 hours in getting
either application installed. Sorry to be long winded, but can anyone help me
with this confounding issue?

Thanks!
Dan

Re: Installing MS Project error

Run this cleanup and try the 2007 install again.
How to uninstall the 2007 Office system if you cannot uninstall it by using
the Add or Remove Programs feature:

Re: Installing MS Project error

Mark:
Thank you for your response! Please forgive me as I may not have made myself
clear, or I do not fully understand the problem (highly probable<g>). My
Office 2007 works just fine. As I understand it, Project Professional 2007 is
not part of that suite and is a separate application. My problem is
installing Project. It's not clear to me how uninstalling Office will help me
install Project.

Can you help me further on this? Thanks!

Re: Installing MS Project error

The memory error is probably caused by a .Net failure. Have you installed
any of the other Frameworks downloads? Vista has its own, and doesn't need
them. If you find one in 'Programs and Features', I would try uninstalling
it.

Re: Installing MS Project error

Thanks Mark! I unchecked 'Framework 3.0' in Programs and Features, then went
and uninstalled .net framework 1.1 and hotfix kb929729. Uninstalled Project,
rebooted and reinstalled Project. Exactly the same problem persists.

I am ready to give up on this one, as my fear now is to screw something else
up with all these changes. It just seems a 2007 Micorosoft application should
easily work on Vista HP SP1. Very frustrating.

Re: Installing MS Project error

Thank you for the response... sounds like it makes sense! As a non-technical
person I have to admit to being a bit nervous about messing with the
registry. Could you take the time to list the steps needed to implement this
suggestion?

I get the download part but am apprehensive about the 'create a batch file'.
Will the install do that or do I have to do something? I'm surmising the
detailed registry entries you list are then created by the batch file or do i
have to cut and paste the entries you list?

Gratefully,
Dan
