| misplaced cursor Hi, I have a problem that I can't figure out how to fix. I have this new Acer laptop with Vista. When I try to type the cursor just suddenly places itself in the middle of a previous line. For instance I will be typing and all of a sudden the middle of "sudden" will insert itself 2 lines up. I tried updating the touchpad driver but it still does it. Any hints? I have heard of another person who has the same problem and never found out what causes it. Thanks in advance, Nancy |

This is a common occurrence with laptops. Some laptops have the ability to disable the touchpad when you know you're going to do a lot of typing. Refer to the Acer manual or website for how to do this. 2. Adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad from the Control Panel applet. Hi Malke, OK, I went into control panel and then to mouse properties. I cannot find where to change the mouse pad sensitivity. I do recall such options before I updated the driver since the icon used to be in the task bar. But now it isn't there. How can I find these settings? Thanks, Nancy |

I'm sorry but because I can't see your computer, you'll just need to look carefully. I find putting the Control Panel into Classic Mode is the easiest way to find things. You may have a separate applet for the touchpad; if this is the case it may be called "Synaptics". Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com Don't Panic! |

It simply is not there! I have checked every avenue I can think of. I also changed the touchpad to show on the taskbar .. in the start menu options. I restarted and it still has no icon there. There is also no "synaptics". It used to be "alps" but I can't find that any longer either. Nancy |

I also tried to go back to the older driver version but that option is grayed out so I can't use it either! |

If it used to be Alps, then you won't see Synaptics since that is an entirely different piece of hardware. Reinstall the drivers for your touchpad. Get them from Acer's website or if the Acer came with a driver disk use the ones from there. I'm very sorry but I don't know how else I can help you since I can't see your computer. Consider having a knowledgeable friend come over to help or call Acer tech support. Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com Don't Panic! |

You have been lots of support. I did go back and get the old driver on Acer's website and now have the option to turn off the touch pad when using the keyboard. I have no idea why you can't access those options with the updated driver though. Now I wonder why I had decided to use the updated driver in the first place. I simply forget why I did that. I'll probably find out in the near future. <lol> Thanks, Nancy |
