Time synch problems Vista

Hello,

I just bought a new laptop yesterday but i'm having big problems with
the time !!! - it seems to lose about 3 minutes every half hour !. I can
even see the seconds seem to stick every so often so it's not surprising
it's losing time.

I have downloaded various time synch programs but they all refuse to
allow auto-changing the clock !

As an example, the latest software i used "SP TimeSync", although it
pulls in the correct time from the server, Vista won't let it change my
clock automatically. It says "Unable to set your computer's clock. Make
sure you have appropriate privelages". I can change the clock manually,
just not automatically.

The inbuilt time servers in Vista work okay, but i want to be able to
have software (preferably free) which will synch every 10 minutes
because it seems to be losing so much time !

I have been into Control Panel - Admin Tools - Services - Windows Time
- and Stopped the time service, but these time synch utilities still
cannot auto-change the time for me !

What settings can i change in Vista so that is WILL allow other software
to change my clock automatically ?

I have Vista Home Premium on Packard Bell Easynote laptop

Cheers,
Andrew

Re: Time synch problems Vista

Hello,

I have now managed to get a time synchronizer working with Vista but
this laptop is losing 8.7 seconds EVERY 30 seconds
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That surely cannot be normal ???

What could be going on here ? It's a brand new Packard Bell Easynote
laptop, only bought it yesterday from Currys !

Best Regards,
Andrew

Probably some crap software that Curry's put on there.
Take it back and get your money back, as it's not fit for purpose.

Re: Time synch problems Vista

Currys reformatted back to factory settings, so it cannot be their
fault.

I have just tracked the problem down but cannot for the life of me think
why it is happening. Whenever i open a webpage the laptop is losing 2.7
seconds every 10 seconds !!! - when i dont have a webpage open the time
loss is negligible (only about 0.01s per 10 seconds) ! - this is the
strangest thing i've seen on a computer!. It doesn't matter what the
webpage is, i have tried google, ebay etc, it does this with all web
pages i've tried. This does not happen on my other main desktop PC.

Anybody any ideas whats going on here and how i can fix it ?

Best Regards,
Andrew

Re: Time synch problems Vista

You can try these few things.

1 check your disk usage with the performance monitor (if its pegged that is one
reason) antivirus and spam scanners can cause that
2 boot in safe mode and check for time loss (if you still lose time in safemode
its a hard ware problem
3 If it doesn't drift in safe mode you will have to go through your services
and running apps to see which one is dragging the time down.

Hope that helps
