remote desktop moves desktop icons

Is there a way to keep remote desktop from moving al of my desktop icons?
My laptop with Vista has a much smaller resolution than my desktop PC with
Vista. When I access my workstation from home, many of the icons are moved.

Is there any thing I can do to save the locations and restore them when I
return?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Unfortunately not - unless you turn off desktop auto arrange and then
manually arrange them so they look acceptable on either size desktop. This
is not new behaviour in Vista - XP and all the Windows Servers do the same.

I've been using this for a few years, and it works perfectly, even with twin
monitors:
