Vista 64 Ultimate and Outlook 2003: Can't connect to Exchange Server

I recently switched OSes from XP Pro (32-bit) to Vista 64 Ultimate,
loaded all my software and settings, and went to town. For some
reason, Outlook 2003 is having excessive difficulty connecting to my
hosted Exchange account. I'll get a "trying to connect" message for
up to a couple minutes before I am prompted for the password. After
that, Outlook will sometimes stay connected and sometimes will not.
(No pattern there; just seems random.) Other times, the connection
will time out without ever asking me for my password.

My Exchange host (1&1) says that the problem is not on its end, and I
tend to agree. If I exit Outlook on the Vista box and try to connect
using my account info on a backup XP box, everything runs smoothly.
Exit the XP box and hop back onto the Vista box, and the problem is
back. And, just to recap, everything worked smoothly on this machine
prior to the Vista install, which was a clean wipe and reformat. I am
also not having issues with any other Internet-related activity -- web
browsing, FTP, gaming -- nor is there any issue when connecting to a
POP source. It's only Exchange that is giving me headaches.

Does anyone have any ideas what the issue could be and how to fix it?
I note that a Google search yields a lot of similar posts, but no
resolution.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Try turning off autotuning in Vista:

netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled

Thanks, but it doesn't seem to have helped. Any other ideas?

A little bump. Still no solution. Any thoughts besides abandoning
Vista?

Re: Vista 64 Ultimate and Outlook 2003: Can't connect to Exchange Server

Hello, I saw your post and was wondering if you ever resolved this? I am
hosting my exchange with 1and1, too, called them and they said it was on
my end, too. I called Microsoft tech support, but they wanted to bill
$260 to do a 'business' tech call. I have searched and tried several
things, including disabling autotuning, however, none worked. If you
found a solution and are willing to share it, it would be most
appreciated. Thank you!
