| Re: Thumbnails not working Is this a new problem or an ongoing problem? Have you recently installed any programs? What firewall, anti-virus application or security suite is installed? There are some that cause problems which do not appear immediately. ------- *Report back, please* "Paul" <Paulj822@aol.com> wrote in message news:OTgmWl4lIHA.1212@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >I am trying to view thumbnails on certain folders with pictures. in a >folder > with 20 files, half come up with thumbnails. i know it's not the files, > because each time i refresh, it's different files that have thumbnails or > are missing thumbnails. it can't be a performance issue, because i'm > running > a pretty fast computer. > > any help is appreciated, > Thanks, > Paul > |

| Re: Thumbnails not working I just realized this only happens when browsing folders over the network. but this is a brand new computer (3 days old) which replaced an XP machine, which this did not happen on. the connection is very fast, so it shouldn't be that. i am running Symantec Endpoint Protection corprorate v11, provided by my employer. the firewall in symantec is disabled, as is the windows firewall, as i have a dedicated hardware firewall. but this is the same setup as the previous XP machine. thanks, Paul "Bob" <bob@nowhere.net> wrote in message news:FOidnWxPx8ocrGXanZ2dnUVZ_viunZ2d@comcast.com... > Is this a new problem or an ongoing problem? > > Have you recently installed any programs? > > What firewall, anti-virus application or security suite is installed? > There are some that cause problems which do not appear immediately. > ------- > *Report back, please* > > "Paul" <Paulj822@aol.com> wrote in message > news:OTgmWl4lIHA.1212@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >>I am trying to view thumbnails on certain folders with pictures. in a >>folder >> with 20 files, half come up with thumbnails. i know it's not the files, >> because each time i refresh, it's different files that have thumbnails or >> are missing thumbnails. it can't be a performance issue, because i'm >> running >> a pretty fast computer. >> >> any help is appreciated, >> Thanks, >> Paul >> > |

| Re: Thumbnails not working Many problems are caused by security suites. See if completely uninstalling Symantec solves your problem. Replace Symantec with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall (It's my understanding a hardware firewall is not adequate)and Windows Defender. | Re: Thumbnails not working I am running the same version of SAV on an XP virtual PC running on this same machine, and the thumbnails work fine, and quick. i just noticed that when opening a folder, on some files, the thumbnails will appear, THEN DISAPPEAR! this is making it very hard to work with my graphics files. | Re: Thumbnails not working You might experience a different result with SAV on Vista. If uninstalling doesn't solve your problem you can always reinstall. ------- *Report back, please* "Paul" <Paulj822@aol.com> wrote in message news:%23dLOIB6lIHA.1368@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >I am running the same version of SAV on an XP virtual PC running on this >same machine, and the thumbnails work fine, and quick. > i just noticed that when opening a folder, on some files, the thumbnails > will appear, THEN DISAPPEAR! > this is making it very hard to work with my graphics files. > > "Bob" <bob@nowhere.net> wrote in message > news:xN-dncI-Aaz33mXanZ2dnUVZ_qCunZ2d@comcast.com... >> Many problems are caused by security suites. >> See if completely uninstalling Symantec solves your problem. >> Replace Symantec with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast >> http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall (It's my >> understanding a hardware firewall is not adequate)and Windows Defender. >> >> How to manually uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection client from >> Windows Vista 32-bit >> http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007080209280848 >> >> ------- >> *Report back, please* >> >> >> "Paul" <Paulj822@aol.com> wrote in message >> news:OSjwqH5lIHA.5024@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >>>I just realized this only happens when browsing folders over the network. >>> but this is a brand new computer (3 days old) which replaced an XP >>> machine, which this did not happen on. >>> the connection is very fast, so it shouldn't be that. >>> i am running Symantec Endpoint Protection corprorate v11, provided by my >>> employer. the firewall in symantec is disabled, as is the windows >>> firewall, as i have a dedicated hardware firewall. but this is the same >>> setup as the previous XP machine. >>> >>> thanks, >>> Paul >>> >>> "Bob" <bob@nowhere.net> wrote in message >>> news:FOidnWxPx8ocrGXanZ2dnUVZ_viunZ2d@comcast.com... >>>> Is this a new problem or an ongoing problem? >>>> >>>> Have you recently installed any programs? >>>> >>>> What firewall, anti-virus application or security suite is installed? >>>> There are some that cause problems which do not appear immediately. >>>> ------- >>>> *Report back, please* >>>> >>>> "Paul" <Paulj822@aol.com> wrote in message >>>> news:OTgmWl4lIHA.1212@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >>>>>I am trying to view thumbnails on certain folders with pictures. in a >>>>>folder >>>>> with 20 files, half come up with thumbnails. i know it's not the files, >>>>> because each time i refresh, it's different files that have thumbnails >>>>> or >>>>> are missing thumbnails. it can't be a performance issue, because i'm >>>>> running >>>>> a pretty fast computer. >>>>> >>>>> any help is appreciated, >>>>> Thanks, >>>>> Paul >>>>> >>>> >>> >> > |
