You make an excellent point. 6 years between OS upgrades was far too long.
Apple went at most two years, and for a while was upgrading their OS every
year. The entrenchment of XP into the mind of the computing public has been,
and will continue to be, a problem for Microsoft.

The other problem has been the marketing of Vista. It seems like MS was
content to just figure "people will have to buy it when they buy a new
computer" and didn't bother to fight the lies and distortions out there
about Vista. Apple's lies in its ad campaign have been very effective at
damaging Vista in the eyes of the public.

Wow, you can turn off the ribbon in office 2007?! How?

I know you can minimize it...right click next to add-in at the top
select minimize.
Looking in office help under..."Can I customize the Ribbon?", tells all.

Of course you can use third party utilities to get rid of it:

But I suspect you already know all of this right? :-)
