| WAN Miniport driver missing Device manager shows yellow triangle beside this entry associated with NIVIDA Networking Adapters. Windows cannot load driver for this hardware. This appeared after SP1 installation failure. Tried system restore three times it failed to restore on each occasion. Can this entry be restored? No problems are apparent since noticing this. Thanks |

I spent a few days looking around various helpful sites without success and then contacted the PC manufacturer. They advised me that restore would not work but told me to try re-installing the network card drivers. I did that from my recovery CD and also tried the drivers from the network card providers site but neither set sorted the problem out. As far as I can gather, the WAN Miniport is a virtual device and does not really exist. It is associated with the network card though. The PC manufacturers said also that if the re-installation of the network card drivers did not sort the problem out, a system recovery or reinstallation would be necessary. Good luck, it's not so bad ad recovery did sort the problem out. |

It's my understanding that it loads this driver onto a system for forward looking compatibility . I did not have this entry in Device Manager prior to it being installed on my system and even to this day it has nothing to do with my system's hardware. It was loaded into my system under Network Adapters during my install of SP1 RC Refresh 2. There must have been something on my system at that time that possibly required it for future use. I simply deleted it with no detrimental effects. This entry was not loaded into my system after I did a clean install of my Vista Ultimate x86 and installed SP1 RTM. I just checked again and it is not there. When I was researching the cause of this I happened upon the article listed in the link below. I hope this helps you solve the problem. | Re: WAN Miniport driver missing I ran into something like this before. I have information on my site of how I fixed it: http://xenomorph.net/?page_id=523 Basically, the “WAN Miniport (IP)” seemed to be messed up, and I couldn't get it re-installed. I have to remove the entry from the registry, then from Device Manager, then re-install it using a program called "DevCon" (available from Microsoft, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311272). Note: I only did this under XP, not Vista.
