no sound

ok, i've had my sony vaio laptop for about half a year and all of a sudden i
couldn't hear any sound today...i've been through most of the troubleshooting
but nothing helped, it says that the soundcard is working properly and when i
go to the mixer it has the green bar going up and down telling u that there
is sound but i don't hear anything at all...im assuming it may be my hardware
which i'm really hoping it's not because i wouldnt have enought money to
repair it and even if i plug headphones into my laptop i hear nothing. so im
really confused...
